HP New Zealand (formerly Compaq Computer New Zealand), Christchurch - various website and database developments, SQL Server 7, MS Access 2000, VB, Oracle. Special features: Quality Management; Source Control; Javascript and VBScript; Web Development tools; XML.
Oct-Nov 2000 Several Contracts :
Orion Energy, Christchurch (via Morgan Banks Technology) various electrical
supply database developments, SQL Server 7 and MS Access 2000. Special features: database user security; interaction
with Internet using internal ftp and extensive VBA coding.
1999-2001 Frequent
Contracts : Fair City Finance Ltd, Christchurch Finance contracts and banking Direct
Debits database development, Y2K modifications, Foxpro and MS Access 2000; XML.
Special features: security, MDE database, and extensive date manipulation. Selected as Beta Test site for Ministry of Economic Development's online (XML) PPSR system.
Jul-Sep 2000 Frequent Contracts
: Chequer Packaging Ltd, Christchurch various manufacturing database
developments, Excel and MS Access 97.
Special features: interaction with production planning tools, Jade, and Excel.
June 2000 Contract :
Turing Solutions, Christchurch National Mail database development, Visual
Basic 6 and MS Access 2000. Special
features: VB Dictionary objects, extensive string object editing.
Oct 98-Dec 99 Contract : Holliday
Group, Christchurch website development and HTML maintenance using VBScript
and JavaScript, SQL Server and MS Access database development and maintenance,
Quality Officer/liaison officer for TELARC. Special features: internet asp
scripting VBScript and JavaScript, online SQL data access.
1998 Contract :
(3 months through PAXUS) PMS-WALSH, Sydney design and modification of many
production databases relating to medical records and pharmaceutical supplies
for doctors and hospitals. Using SQL Server, Access 2.0, 8.0, VBA.
1998 Contract :
(6 months through Interquest) ETC/UNSW, Sydney design and implementation of
major Access databases to read scanner output and mark, analyse and report on
the (a) NSW ELLA examinations, and (b) the Victorian LAP examinations. Special
features: scanner input, processing, and Postscript output files.
1998 Short
Contracts : ORIX(NSW) Fleet management Access database; NSW Dept of Womens
Affairs DBA training for new personnel.
1996-97
Contract: Fiji
Electricity Authority, Fiji.
Responsible
for designing and implementing the Authority's five-year Strategic Information
Systems Plan. This included:

implementation of a nation-wide Windows NT network, installing and maintaining
NT 4.0 (up to Service Pack 3);

Upgrades from Win 3 to
Win 95;
·
Tuning and
trouble-shooting of Win 95;
·
Win 95 registry
maintenance;

Internet, Intranet and
Web design and implementation;
·
Microsoft Office 97
Professional, including Word with inline links to Access, Access, Excel,
Schedule, and Outline;

MS Access v2.0, 7.0 and
Access97, including VBA routines and macros;

1993-97
Several parallel and
overlapping contracting jobs, taking varying proportions of my time, and in
particular:
Contract:
Pacific Power Association, Fiji.
Installed
Windows 95 on all PCs. Installed Office 95 on all PCs and trained staff in
usage. Later upgraded it to Office 97. This included designing and implementing
various inter-related databases using Microsoft Access v2.0, including one to
control high-volume inwards and outwards mail, one to manage conferences and
training, with provision for travel and payment recording. Implementing the
organisations Internet link and designing and writing its Web pages. (See www.ppa.org.fj for latest information)
Also
responsible for developing a relational Electricity Industry Database of all
poles, lines, and other technical equipment for some 24 Pacific Island
electricity utilities.
Contract: Westpac
Banking Corp, Regional Office, Fiji.
Responsible
for several projects, including upgrading all PCs to Win 95, and all the
program design and implementation for Visa, Mastercard, and Bankcard centralisation
through Westpac Suva to Sydney.
Attached to various banks through the region to do this.
Also
attached for one month to the Westpac regional audit team as their computer
expert during this time.
Contract:
South Seas Computing, Fiji.
Responsible
for several projects, including the database design and implementation to
record marketing and repair of computers.
Contract:
A&P Development Consultants, Fiji.
Responsible
for several projects, including upgrading all PCs to Win 95, and all the
database design and implementation for the South Pacific Regional Trade
Directory, for the South Pacific FORUM Secretariat. Hands-on development using
both dBaseIV and MS Access v2.0, for international distribution.
Contract:
Ragini Developments, Fiji.
Installed Win 95 on several PCs, including a
dual system with Win NT Workstation. Developed an office management database, a
real-estate database, and a service-calls database for several clients, using
MS Access v2.0 and v7.
1991-92 RNZ
Dockyard, Auckland Technical Information Manager; design and implementation
of Foxpro and MS Access databases to scan and record navy shipyard technical
drawings; control and recording of Standards, microfiche, etc.
1987-90
Fiji Sugar
Corporation Manager Information Services; divisional manager, 50 staff,
design and implementation of new network, upgrade of mainframe, design and
implementation of cane weighing system automated and linked by telecomm to
mainframe from throughout Fiji, Informix databases, UNIX admin, Visual Basic
and C++ programming.
1985-Sep 87 SPEC
(South Pacific Forum Secretariat) Regional Disaster Adviser; multi-function
role, advising South Pacific governments on disaster legislation, planning, and
preparedness; also computing adviser to SPEC and its member states.
1978-Sep 85 NZ
Ministry of Civil Defence Assistant Director; responsible for administration,
planning, and operations from the national headquarters. Assisted in establishing the National Civil
Defence School, new national VHF and HF SSB radio networks, new legislation and national Plans, and
installation of computers and other up-to-date equipment and thinking.
1977 NZ
State Services Commission Senior Computer Consultant; responsible for
Education, Law Enforcement, National Library, Internal Affairs (Immigration
system).
1976 Education
Dept Management Services Officer; responsible for a review of the NZ Trades
Certification Authority, and the Education Stores system.
1974-75 Polymath
Agencies Ltd Managing Director; own business two shops, plus small
consulting jobs; had to give up because clash of two responsibilities.
1972-73 Mosgiel
Woollens Ltd Data Processing Manager; 25 staff; acquired in-house computer in
lieu of two bureaux, plus software and admin.
1971 ICL
NZ Chief Lecturer; taught all ICL subjects; gave up because family objected
to time away from home.
1971 Contract
NZ Motor Corp; taught staff COBOL, disk usage, managed computer upgrade.
1962-70 NZ
Army regular, rising to specialist Staff Sergeant; first 3 years as Education
and Welfare NCO, then 5 ½ years as first Computer Programmer in the Army. Used PLAN, Assembler, COBOL, FORTRAN.
1961 NZ

In addition to the above, I am equally a specialist in Windows from version 2 to WfW 3.11, and all related software. Fully experienced in Lotus products, and Novell or Lantastic network management. Migration from legacy products has been a speciality.
